Shakespeare in the Park

One of my favorite things to do every summer is cop a squat in Barnsdall Park with friends, wine and Trader Joes goodies and enjoy an exceptional performance by the Independent Shakespeare Company. In previous years I have seen a very strong Macbeth and a hysterical Twelfth Night. This year the company is running Henry V and The Tempest so I got a group of friends together this past weekend and got to know Henry V a little better. It is an absolutely delightful experience to spend a nice summer evening on the grass with a picnic, an alcoholic beverage and a little LA culture, ISC consistently delivers extraordinary Shakespeare. Did I mention it is free (suggested donation of $10 for adults and $5 of kids)? You can email the box office and make a reservation which allows you to enter the outdoor theater at 6pm, claim your part of the lawn and set up your picnic. After 7pm the place is open to anyone who didn’t think ahead and make a reservation.
Final Word: Don't forget the bottle opener!

Patina's Locals Night

Maybe its the recession, maybe its summer, or an answer to Craftbar. I don't care what the reason is I'm just stoked to hear the Patina Group is going to be offering great food for a whole lot less at their Locals Night events which are scheduled every Thursday night throughout the month of July and August at rotating Patina Group Restaurants. This is a great chance for people like you and me who dream of being snobby foodies but can't really afford to support the habit. We're talking $5 small plates , $6 cocktails, and even some freebies - HELLO!
Final Word: Make a reservation or you might be going to bed hungry!

Contessa hits Michigan Outlets

Words I never knew I would utter . . .shopping in Michigan is awesome! Well, what can I say? Its true! First off the sales tax there is only 6% (HELLO), then; the outlets offer a number of good name brand items at overwhelmingly reduced prices – basically I was in my element. I only wish we had had more time. So there I was strolling around the Coach outlet when a very nice sales lady approaches me and lets me know that all of their clearance items were an additional 50% that day. Words cannot describe my reaction to this news, I literally needed her to repeat herself to make sure that I heard correctly. Suddenly I felt like a kid at Disneyland for the first time and couldn’t get to the clearance section fast enough. Between my mom, sister and we made quite a dent in their inventory that day.
