I have been meaning to address LA discount dining for a long time but hadn’t really figured out how I should go about it. There are just so many amazing happy hour menus offered at upscale restaurants throughout LA that in order to do the subject justice I would have to write the longest post in blog history. My solution is to offer you the info in small doses starting with my latest trip to downtown Culver City.
Culver City’s downtown restaurant row is booming with deliciously unique dining establishments that emphasize organic, local, vegetarian and vegan cuisines. Gyenari, one of the latest restaurants to open in this area follows the trend with their healthy Korean BBQ menu. The interior does not disappoint with its hot and modern lounge look, we’re talking exposed ductwork, polished concrete floors, impressive water features, a monochromatic color scheme and just the right amount of lighting in all the right places. So you can imagine that dinner in a place like this might be a little pricey. The average cost of dinner at Gyenari will cost you about $50 a person in the dining room but if you sit in the bar on a Monday through Friday between 4&7pm you can get out of there for a whole lot less.
Nathan and I showed up around 6pm Monday night and easily found two seats at the bar. I was in the mood for a fruity cocktail so I went with the Raspberry Acai which I was pleased to find was refreshing while not too sweet. I paired this with an order of steamed shrimp & kimchee dumplings for $4 and shared some fried zucchini and beer battered onion rings with Nathan. With all that and Nathan’s two beers we still got out of there for under $20 each (including tip) and satisfied bellies.
Final word: Stop by for lunch and pick from a number dishes for only 10 bucks!
